WASHINGTON, D.C. — March 09, 2011 — The Glover Park Group announced that Catharine Cyr Ransom, most recently Senior Climate and Environmental Advisor to Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), has joined the firm as a Managing Director in the Government Affairs practice.
While working with Senator Baucus, Ransom served as lead advisor for energy, climate change, and environment as well as liaison to the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee. In this capacity she was responsible for building and executing a comprehensive energy and climate change agenda, crafting legislation, building bipartisan coalitions, and forging compromises to advance legislative priorities. Prior to joining the Senator’s office Ransom served as a principal at the Accord Group where she advised clients on environmental, climate, infrastructure, and water policy.
For nearly a decade, Ransom worked for Senator Bob Graham (D-FL) and the Senate EPW Committee as Senior Policy Advisor. While on the Committee, she specialized in water, drinking water, and water resources as well as homeland security issues including the Federal response to Hurricane Katrina. Before joining the Committee, Catharine managed environment, energy, and agriculture issues for Senator Graham, staffing both the Senate EPW and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committees. In 2000, she led the successful effort to enact the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan.
“For nearly two decades Ransom has been on the front lines of shaping the nation’s energy and environmental policies,” said Joel Johnson, Managing Director of The Glover Park Group’s Government Relations practice. “That perspective and depth of experience will be invaluable to the firm, our Energy and Sustainability practice and our clients.”
Combining deep policy expertise and top communications talent, GPG’s Energy | Sustainability team provides corporate and issue advocacy clients with truly integrated support, from government relations and public affairs to opinion research, marketing and advertising.
Prior to her tenure on Capitol Hill, Ransom served at the Chief of Naval Operations, where she worked to develop Navy climate change policy, to manage the phase – out of ozone – depleting substances, and to implement environmental management systems.
Ransom is a graduate of Penn State University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Economics. She received her Masters of Engineering Management, Environment and Energy from The George Washington University.
